The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Dutchess residents regarding the residency of 55-year-old Shane Bower, who has moved from Route 44 in Pleasant Valley to a residence on Academy Street in Poughkeepsie.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Bowers as a level two threat, which means he is at "moderate risk of a repeat offense."

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Bowers had "deviate sexual intercourse" with a 14-year-old girl in July 1991. He was convicted of third-degree rape in November of that year and sentenced to five years probation. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.
